Sarah Pater b. Wilmington, Delaware
Sarah Pater’s work blurs the aesthetics of boredom and attention with office-leisure-domestic design, daily experiences, and painting conventions. Her work borders the lines between surrealism and minimalism, hiding intricate layering techniques within the flatness of her color pallet. Her subject matter offers windows into the mundane outline repetition faced in everyday life; a series of familiar scenes rendered strange. Playing with depth and illusion, her work mimics the act of staring into the distance for too long, when suddenly, the mirage appears.
Pater holds a B.F.A from Boston University and an M.F.A from Rhode Island School of Design. Her works have been featured both in solo and group shows across the United States and London, UK. Some of these include; CHART, New York (2023), Lighthouse Works, Fishers Island, New York (2022), Helen J Gallery, Los Angeles (2022), Peep Projects, Philadelphia (2022), and Taymour Grahne Projects, London (2022). She currently lives and works in Philadelphia.
