Lorena Torres Barranquilla, Colombia, b. 1991
Lorena Torres (b. 1991, Barranquilla, Colombia) is a painter whose surreal narratives touch upon a collective history of the Colombian Caribbean where she was born and raised. Heavily influenced from family anecdotes and her personal relationships, her scenarios are as magnetic as they are amusing. Flowers, fruits, and patterns encircle her figures romanticizing a sense of indulgence, bliss, figures unaware of the slow passage of time. Engaged in a constant pull between reality and reverie, Torres’s works allow memories to give way to a dream-like reality and for time to slow to a pause.
Torres holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Her recent solo exhibitions include Nada es distinto at Casa Santa Ana (2025); Alguna vez, en cualquier lugar, nos soñé at Weinstein Hammons (2024); El Milagro es la Pereza de Díos at Huxley-Parlour (2024); Waiting for My Love To Find Me at Pablo’s Birthday (2023); and A Head is a Dark Place at Galería Subtítulo (2021). She has also been part of several notable group exhibitions around the globe including, New York, London, and Bogotá. Torres has participated in various artist residencies including Threads at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Senegal, (2026) and Casa Santa Ana, Panama, (2024). She lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia.
