Henrik Eiben: Love Takes Miles

Press release

Henrik Eiben practice alternates seamlessly between drawing and sculpture, one always informing the other in tandem stride. The forms presented in this exhibition are moments where color, shape, and material meet in a playful tenderness.

In Love Takes Miles, the works' edges align temporarily or rest against one another without coming to a closed whole. Balance supersedes fixed structure, proposing a condition of fragility that relies on mutual dependence. Intimacy is formed in their adjacency, where each shape, form, and color embraces its neighbor; there is no dissolve, but a coexistence.

Geometry has long been central to Eiben’s practice, though never as a system for strict order. Instead, it operates as a boundary; containing and stabilizing. Color functions in a similar way. Rather than unifying the composition, it articulates intervals and distinctions. Transparent layers, tones, and shifts in intensity create relationships that are distinct rather than merging into a single field.

The process itself is responsive. Decisions are not imposed in advance but develop through a series of ongoing interactions between material, form, and space. Elements rest on top of one another, under one another, next to one another as they inhabit two and three dimensional fields. The result is a body of work that resists resolution, sustaining a state of proximity without collapse.

Love Takes Miles will be the artist’s sixth exhibition with Pablo’s Birthday, commemorating a fourteen-year long partnership.
