‘’Closer” is a large-scale installation containing a pictorial production composed of 60 silk panels intervened in batik. Through the use and reinterpretation of symbols, icons, deities, cryptic and protest messages reminiscent of rave culture, Gala Knörr explores the intrinsic relationship that exists between the act of partying and the act of protest.
“Closer” was activated at the end of AZzabalik at Azkuna Zentroa through the electrifying musical performance of the British duo Gum Takes Tooth, generating a post-rave energy in the form of an avant-garde protest in which to reflect on the power of bodies united in movement in a public space.
Knörr’s upcoming solo exhibition at Pablo’s Birthday, Party is Over, Long Live the Party continues to explore these themes.
