Pablo's Birthday is pleased to present Anouk Lamm Anouk, Henrik Eiben, Frank Gerritz, Ron Gorchov, and Alice Quaresma at the 30th Edition of The Armory Show. In conversation with one another, each practice highlights the foundations and ensuing legacies of modern and contemporary minimalism and minimalist abstraction.

December 6 through 10, 2023

Pablo’s Birthday participated in the 12th edition of Untitled Art Miami Beach 2023 with a booth concept dissecting the aesthetics of surrealism in the 21st Century. Alongside one another– Mona Ardeleanu, Lena Christakis, Eckart Hahn, Sarah Pater, Emily Pettigrew, and Mai Ta walk a fine line between reality and reverie. This collective of artists explores surrealist discourse and aesthetic concepts that seem to question reality. With their dreamlike depictions, uncanny imagery, and exploration of perception, they invite their witnesses to question the fine line between the real and the dream. Each artist's unique perspective and practice serve as a testament to the enduring relevance of surrealism’s place in the contemporary dialogue.

Pablo's Birthday is pleased to present a booth concept centering on the gallery's roots of minimal abstraction and inclination towards conceptual representation. The presentation exhibits a harsh collision between the minimal and the abstract. In conversation with one another, Henrik Eiben, Pius Fox, Denise Rudolf Frank, and Alice Quaresma dissect their personal artistic practice whilst playfully ricocheting off their differences. Geometry is the vocabulary of Quaresma, Eiben, and Fox. By combining shapes, color, and lines with a clear intention to expand beyond traditional art forms of photography or sculpture - abstraction meets the emotion. Denise Rudolf Frank’s expressionistic works, grounded in Austrian painting, serve as a counterbalance. Her paintings are vivid and authentic representations of her being, translating with her hands into the canvas exposing the organic movements of her hands on the canvas.

ArtGenève

January 26 through 29, 2023

Pablo's Birthday is pleased to showcase at the 11th edition of ArtGenève artists Lorena Torres (b. 1991 Barranquilla, Colombia) and Thorsten Brinkmann (b. 1971, Herne, Germany), with a booth concept revolving around the mystical and the abstract. Torres’s work explores the genre of magical realism, while Brinkmann’s photography employs the language of modern abstraction. In concert with one another, the two playfully interact in a slightly altered reality. Brinkmann’s fantastical portraiture borders the line of the absurd, giving new meaning to everyday objects. Torres’s familial narratives examine histories of the rural Caribbean, providing a dream-like production of these natural spaces. In line with one another, the artists dare to present the blurred lines between the real and the dream. These artists represent a common line in our gallery program - one of conceptual representation and the allure of storytelling.

Pablo's Birthday is pleased to showcase a dialogue between abstraction and figuration, presenting the works of Henrik Eiben, Pius Fox, Alice Quaresma, Mai Ta, and Alan Uglow. Geometry is the vocabulary of Quaresma, Eiben, Fox, and Uglow; by combining shapes, color, and lines, abstraction meets the emotion, modulated by light and materiality. Mai Ta's deeply personal forms of the human figure explore themes of transformation and spirituality. In this presentation, her works serve as a counterbalance. In conversation with one another, these artists represent two common lines in our gallery program- one of concrete minimalism and one of conceptual representation.
